An alchemist's desk — open journal with painted color swatches, labeled jars, roses, brushes — The Color Alchemist by Beth Gatza
The Color Alchemist · A Ritual by Beth Gatza

This week is already disappearing.

The call you almost made. The meal you almost tried. The thing you almost let go of.
By Sunday it's gone — unless you catch it.

Always free
The Challenge
Three small dares by email, every week. Pick one. Go live it. That's the part that gets you out the door.

The challenge is the spark. The brew is what catches it before it disappears.

Touch one. That's what six questions do to your own moment — for real, inside the brew.

Most weeks just disappear.

The good ones too. Not the disasters — those you remember. It's the quiet good ones that vanish first: the phone call that actually connected, the tiny act of courage nobody saw, the ordinary Tuesday that was, for one hour, kind of beautiful.

Gone by Thursday. Replaced by the next thing on the list.

The challenge is what gets you out the door to live one of those moments on purpose. A call to someone you've drifted from. A dish you've never made. Ten things finally let go of. Small, real, free — every single week.

The brew is where that moment stops disappearing. Six quick questions — how it felt, what it weighed, what was hiding underneath — and a color forms in front of you as you answer. Not a color you pick. A color your moment makes, that has never been mixed before and never will be again. You name it. You mix it for real. You put it in a jar.

A year from now, the weeks you'd have forgotten are the ones sitting on your shelf.

This week's brew is $5 — and once this week passes, this exact moment doesn't come back.

About the shelf

A shelf of paint jars — each one a color mixed from a lived moment
Three labeled paint jars on a windowsill — each one a color from a lived moment

People will ask about it. A row of small labeled jars — Velvet Longing. Ember Glass. Morning Salt. — looks like something between a spice rack and a spellbook, and when someone asks what they are, you get to say the best sentence in this whole thing:

"They're my memories. I mix one a week."

Every jar is a week you didn't let disappear. Skip a few weeks and that's fine — nothing expires. But the ones you catch, you keep. Forever.

Why I made this

Beth Gatza — artist, filmmaker, educator
Beth Gatza — artist, filmmaker, and educator · Los Angeles

I'm Beth Gatza — artist, filmmaker, and teacher. I've taught portrait painting to thousands of students, and I give my flagship course away free, because I believe the education part should never be behind a wall.

But here's what I believe: better art doesn't come from more lessons. It comes from your life. A computer can make any picture now — but it can't live your Tuesday. Only you can. This ritual just helps you catch it before it's gone.

Small questions, honest answers

Wait — what am I actually paying for?
The weekly challenge — the email, the prompts, the dare to go live something — is free, always. The $5 is only for the brew: the interactive tool that turns what you lived into a named, mixed, printable color. You can do the challenge without ever paying anything.
Do I need to be a "real artist"?
No. You need a moment and a pen. If you paint, the recipe gives your hands something to do with the color. If you don't paint yet — this may be what starts you.
What if I miss a week?
Nothing bad happens. There's no falling behind here. But this week's brew is this week's — once it passes, that exact color moment is gone, the way the week itself would have been anyway.
Is my journal private?
Completely. Your words never leave the page. They never go anywhere. Nothing reads them. The color comes only from the answers you tap.

Not ready for the $5 brew? This gets you the free weekly challenges — no purchase needed.
